Our
mares and stallions boast the absolute finest pedigrees in the
world. Tim, Maple Squirrel, Pete and the hard to find Yankee
(Ragtime) to name just a few. Between our two stallions, we have every single foundation
Rocky Mountain Horse® stallion in the breed! These are REAL foundation lines that
we are proud to own, breed, train, ride and occasionally sell.
We
have hand picked our 2 brood mare bands according to the
individual qualities of our stallion and stud colt. We have chosen
them based on their temperament, conformation, gait and color, to produce
outstanding marketable foals that are premier representations of the breed.
Most
of Hondo's mares carry the cream gene, which is what makes a
palomino, buckskin or smoky black and Troubadour's mares are bay
and black to produce Chocolate/white, Silver Bay, Classic or Amber
Champagne in addition to the base colors bay and black.
In
addition to the required parentage DNA testing, we DNA color test all of our
breeding stock and most foals to ensure the color identification
for their registration. Color testing is also especially important as it relates to a
genetic eye condition called Anterior Segmented Disgenesis (ASD),
which has a suspected link to the Silver Gene which is what gives many
Mountain horses that distinctive Chocolate or Red Chocolate color. All of
our Chocolate/Red Chocolate foals will be single silver and have
no chance of being a visually affected ASD
foal.

The
Rocky Mountain Horse® was granted a Certification Mark (®) by
the United States Trademark and Patent Office and is the only
breed to be able to use such a mark. “THE CERTIFICATION MARK, AS
USED BY PERSONS AUTHORIZED BY THE CERTIFIER, CERTIFIES THAT THE
HORSES HAVE BEEN EXAMINED BY THREE CERTIFIERS AND MEETS THE
CERTIFICATION STANDARDS REGARDING HEIGHT, BODY, GAIT, TEMPERAMENT
AND COLOR”.
